John Harper (Lehi, UT) is a principal database engineer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the co-author, with Michael McLaughlin, of Oracle Database 11g PL/SQL Programming Workbook.

I found the chapter on how to use PL/SQL to gather statistics for tuning the performance of your queries particularly useful. Th

This book is a must if you need to learn how to use any of the advanced programming features and techniques in Oracle. It clearly walks you through the process of how to use Java in the database and how to interface with existing eternal libriaries written in both Java and C. Through out the book there is a strong focus on how to write secure applications both in Java and PL/SQL. There are even two chapters dedicated to the topic of application security. This alone is a strong reason for purchasing this book. In addition, this book does a thorough job of covering how to do file I/O using both PL/SQL and Java. It even has a chapter on high speed data transfer for importing and exporting large volumes of data such as in a data warehousing ETL application. I found the chapter on how to use PL/SQL to gather statistics for tuning the performance of your queries particularly useful.

The book is very well written and is full of easy to follow examples. It does, however, assumes that you have a working knowledge of the Oracle architecture, PL/SQL and Java. There is an appendix on basic Java if you need a refresher but still feel that you should have had some working knowledge of Java to get the most out of the Java related topics.

This book is McLaughlin's best work yet. The lessons in this book are presented so clearly that even if you don't feel adequate in PL/SQL or java you will get a lot out of this book. There are tons of examples and the illustrations are magnificent. One of the things I liked most about this book is that it is direct and to the point. There is no fluff wasting your time. The concepts are laid out as simply as they can be. The chapters about Application security were fantastic. Using the 2012 LinkedIn database breach (among others), the book keeps you interested with real life examples about the importance of security. I would recommend this book to anyone with advanced programming skills, whether you are using PL/SQL or not. The concepts in this book are beneficial to everyone in the field.

Nothing else like it

Only a single printing of this book was published in 1973, at $35 per copy ($170 in today's dollars). Those who missed the boat have had to content with finding a local library that carried the title, or buying a deaccessioned volume from used book dealers at 10-20x the original retail (2-4x adjusted for inflation).

As the other reviewer noted, this is a comprehensive reference manual, a chronological survey of male fashion trends in the mostly Anglo-American cultural sphere through 3/4 of the 20th Century, from underwear to formal wear, from spats to cravats, from full body bathing suits to polyester leisure suits. The authors did not pretend to teach good taste (though they were clearly affected by the contemporary "Peacock Revolution"), as Flusser and Roetzel (and Andy Gilchrist) aimed to do through their popular guides; what they did offer in abundance was a historical perspective on the evolution of sartorial design. By gaining this perspective, the reader would have a more confident grasp on what 'good' taste was, is, and will likely be (given the cyclic nature of fashion).

Is this confidence worth $300 - $500? If one is a working member of the fashion or entertainment industry, almost certainly. A history buff? Quite possibly. The Grimoire of men's classic fashion culture

This tome is the gold standard of resources for learning most everything there is to know about classic men's dress and fashion. More of a reference work than a cover to cover read, this resource answers most of those questions that would leave most classic men's dress mentors scratching their heads. Wonderful illustrations, sketches, glossary of terms, and evolutionary commentary of most every item that can be named in the male wardrobe.

A rarity to find in any condition, but be prepared to pay handsomely for the information contained herein. This book is a much valued and used trophy in my collection of lore in the art of classic men's dress. Couldn't recommend it with higher marks.

I just finished reading this amazing book! It is one of the most comprehensive guides that I have read (and I have read many). It truly is an encyclopedia of self medical care and is over 900 pages LONG!!! He teaches the reader how to make soap, wound-care products, insecticide, sun block, toothpaste and so much more. It includes how to set up an emergency medical chest, with descriptions of everything you need to treat any medical problem that could arise. It also has a great reading list to further explore any of the subjects he writes about. Best of all, it's easy to read and understand!!!

This book is an encyclopedic length reference manual of over 900 pages , including everything you need to know to treat any medical problem from routine fevers to snakebites , there is even a chapter on Ebola .
The section on how to build your own medical chest is especially helpful so you will be able to treat problems when there are no doctors or medicine available. There is a large section on nutrition and how to grow healthy plants from the soil up . It also teaches you how to make everything you will need in a survival situation.....Soap, toothpaste, sunblock....For the Preppers, it is an awesome reference! For EVERYONE...it is an awesome
guide to everyday needs too. VERY INTERESTING read...Prepper or not!

This is an incredibly well-informed book which exceeds its intentions; the information is helpful for all situations, not just a post apocalyptic scenario. Whether you are an avid boater, private pilot, camper, hunter, or outdoorsman of any kind, the knowledge embedded throughout this book will prove itself useful. This should be a staple of anyone’s bug-out bag or home first-aid kit. It is written in such a way that is understandable to everyone, not just those in the medical profession. Definitely worth its weight — and it weighs a lot :-P

Sometimes we all just want to escape, to find a place of peace and tranquility. After shutting off the local and national news, I found myself feeling more at peace, not feeling the stress over things that were out of my control. My family called this my bubble, and so it is, my happy bubble. While I was in my bubble and on a camping trip with my family, “Bliss” just came to me suddenly, with no forethought to ever writing a book, yet suddenly there it was, so I began to write. At times I would set the book aside, sometimes for several months, then something would happen that would get me writing once again. On two separate occasions, strangers came to home, looking for Dawn. I have lived in my home for many years, and this has never happened before. It was as if the universe was telling me to get it done. Bliss is different for everyone, in people, places, and things. I found my bliss, and I pray that you find yours!

wonderful story!!

It was a wonderful book & I really enjoyed it. Now to wait for the movie!!! Lol

I was friends with Lisa online when she wrote this book so I felt I should buy and read it & am Glad that I did as I really enjoyed reading it.

I was raised in a small town & felt the characters were very believable. It flowed well with a few plot twists that kept it interesting. I even read the halloween chapter just after watching one of the pirates of the Carabean movies. So I still had the character's fresh in my head & could better visualize the costumes. So the timing on that was perfect. As a Veteran I felt very connected to the patriotic elements of the book as well. An Easy and enjoyable read.

A Must Have!

A Must Have! Although this is a children book, I highly recommend it for ALL ages. It left me in such awe, the way it gracefully teaches you the attributes of Allah (SWT). The message is simple yet done in the most beautiful and creative ways. The illustration makes a big impact and goes hand in hand with this meaningful book! I loved pursuing the pages with my children and finding the hidden shahada. Thank you for doing this and looking forward to many more books from you both, in sha'Allah!

This is done by using the PC as the basic teaching tool. This book assumes the reader has a knowledge of integral calculus, neutron transport theory, and Fortran programming. It also assumes the reader has available a PC with a Fortran compiler. Any PC of reasonable size should be adequate to reproduce the examples or solve the exercises contained herein. The authors believe it is important for the reader to execute these examples and exercises, and by doing so to become accomplished at preparing appropriate software for solving radiation transport problems using Monte Carlo. The step from the software described in this book to the use of production Monte Carlo codes should be straightforward.

This is a great textbook, very comprehensive information on the subject, the the writing could be clearer. It would be hard to make this subject into a page turner, but in this book it's sometimes difficult to pick up the relevant information because the writing is so dry.
